The new year is now literally just around the corner, and that is the perfect time to give your home a new start. Is your living room starting to look like it needs a few upgrades? Don’t worry there are several things you can do to change things around, or simply spruce up the room a little. Once the Christmas tree and all the decorations are away – it’s time to hit the shops! The good news is you don’t have to spend a lot of money shaking things up a bit. If you need to, you can have a massive renovation. If you are renting your options are limited, you can’t go ripping up carpet, but you can look into renting a whole new look. A new sofa, some lamps, table etc. can change the whole look and feel of your room. If you have had some accessories scattered throughout the room over the last few years, maybe now is the time to have a look and see what else is out there. Throw pillows
This is without a doubt one of the most affordable updates you can find for your living room. If your current cushions are a bit lumpy, faded or tatty it’s time to update. There are so many different colours, styles, fabrics and patterns out there. Visit your local homewares stores and browse, from furs to satin and everything in between, be bold and bright or just update to the very latest season and trends. With a bunch of new bright pillows in the room, your lounge-room will look new, fresh and different. Don’t forget you can really change the look by opting for larger cushions in bright vibrant patterns and really add a dramatic statement.
Ottomans
If you have never had/used them before – you will wonder how you EVER lived without them. Ottomans are a great accessory to your seating arrangement, and they take up very little *visual* space when it’s just you and your family in the house, but, if you have friends round, or you are having a party they make great extra seating!
Add an accent chair
If you feel like the room just needs a pop of colour an accent chair is a great choice. Go for a colour that stands out and is totally different to your current colour scheme, or one that matches your colours scheme but is bright and vibrant. Don’t forget to check out sales, markets and garage sales. You might find something that looks amazing, at a bargain price.
Upholstery
Perhaps you already own the perfect sofa or chair, but maybe the colour or pattern is looking a little outdated. You can always consider having them re-upholstered into something fresh and new, bold and bright, soft and subtle, patterned or plain when it comes to re-upholstering the choice is yours – and there will be a LOT of choices. Alternatively, you can always consider throwing out your old furniture and renting new furniture that’s modern and up to date that already comes in the latest colours and styles.
Floor lamps
You probably haven’t looked at the very latest floor lamps in a while. Today there are so many styles, colours and shapes available, and, with the right lighting, you can make any room look new and exciting. If you think your floor lamp needs an upgrade – or you just want to try one out, there are plenty of amazing floor lamps that are both stylish and functional.
Rugs
If you choose your rug correctly you can really make the room. If you want something new and contemporary, why not consider adding a faux animal hide? If you want some texture opt for a sheepskin rug.
Paint
Of course, this is a big job, but you can do it yourself or hire some professional painters, a fresh coat of paint and some new accessories and you’ll start 2020 off with a bang, your room will feel fresh and new and you’ll be amazed how a few subtle changes can make your room live again. However, finding proper colour to decorate your home is not easy task. It is better to do some online research before completing this step.
